This uncommon species was described in 2008. It was previously considered a large form of T. diaguitensis. This species grows to one meter in height and has a very long scape, pale yellow floral bracts and large open white petals which are longer than those of T. diaguitensis. T. mereliana blooms easily and is strongly fragrant.
